Bokisch Vineyards

Bokisch Vineyards

About Us

What does the name “Bokisch” have to do with Spain? Although Markus was raised in California, he spent his childhood summers in Spain with his family. In the Spanish tradition, he was given wine with water at meals. As he grew older each year the wine & water started turning from a light pink to a deep purple. Little did Markus know, his tastebuds from then on were programmed towards Spanish wines.

In 1992, Liz & Markus moved to Spain and worked in the Spanish wine industry in Raimat and the Penedes. Upon their return, they purchased their Terra Alta Vineyards property in the Clements Hills.

Thus began Bokisch Vineyards. Using their Spanish connections they began importing budwood and in 1999 they planted the Las Cerezas Vineyard, known as their “motherblock,” of Tempranillo, Albariño and Graciano. They produced their first vintage of Iberian wines under the Bokisch label in 2001. Now they specialize in 9 different award winning wines which also include Garnacha, Garnacha Blanca, Monastrell, Verdejo and Verdelho.

In 2012, we embarked on a new project with our Tizona wines from unique vineyards. The same sense of adventure, just in a whole new direction! Old Vine Zin in 2015, Malbec the next year, and perhaps a sherry or even a cava at some point in the future!

Our Bokisch Team is our most valuable asset. Come see us at one of our events, we love getting to know our customers!  Many of our wines have been recognized by wine competitions or wine critics,  you can see some of the latest awards and accolades below.

Our Team

Markus Bokisch
Owner/ CEO/Vigneron

Markus is passionate about sustainable farm management.  Strong ties to his Spanish heritage combined with his love of farming have found the perfect outlet in Bokisch Vineyards wines. Markus enjoys restoring his ’67 VW Bus and sailing with the Stockton Sailing Club.

Liz Bokisch
Owner/ CFO/Epicurean

Her father inspired her first foray into winemaking and it continued when she and Markus became “garagistes”.  Liz collects recipes on their annual trips to Spain, gives cooking classes and hosts parties for Bokisch Vineyards.  Liz also enjoys raising chickens, gardening, and her book club.

Business Manager

When she isn’t working she is usually relaxing with her family and friends over dinner and wine or out shopping with her girls.  She is a native Central Valleyite.  As a young person she enjoyed horseback riding and swimming and still swims for exercise.

Outside the winery, Elyse can be found at a SF Giants game or hiking, skiing, biking, running…in other words, she loves the outdoors and has energy to burn.  Elyse’s passion and energy has always been evident; in her younger years she was a ballet and tap dancer.

Wine Club Manager / Tasting Room Manager

Jeff worked at the Lodi Wine and Visitor Center tasting room in 2015. He developed a passion for Bokisch wines a decade ago when he and his wife, Elyse, joined our wine club. When he is not greeting customers and club members in the new Bokisch tasting room, he spends his time enjoying the California outdoors, listening to music, volunteering and studying philosophy.

Office Assistant

Maria is a Lodi native and comes from a close knit family of 8 siblings.  Outside of the office, Maria’s all about her girls.  They love to picnic and spend time at the park and of course, they love to go shopping!

Office Reception

Maya grew up running the rows of vineyards and bottling home wines with her family. Beyond drinking the stuff, she enjoys hiking the American River Canyon, traveling the California coast, and buckling down with a good book.

Shop Manager

When she isn’t holding down the ag-shop fort, Linda can be found horseback riding or gardening or just sitting by a fire with friends and family (with a glass of wine, no doubt!).  A life-long Great Central Valley girl, Linda grew up in Stockton and Manteca.

Head Mechanic

Larry keeps things moving by repairing and maintaining all Bokisch Ranches equipment. When he's not on the job he enjoys kayaking, bicycling and spending time with the family. Although still a kid at heart, he has put his dirt bikes and martial arts practice aside (for now!).  Larry grew up in Escondido.

Assistant Vineyard Manager

Alex is a Lodi native and an avid Oakland A’s and SF 49ers fan.  He and his brother were very competitive as kids and they had an annual race to cross the Mokelumne every December 1st.  Alex often attends wine events to pour for Bokisch Vineyards.

Assistant Vineyard Manager

Arthur grew up in the Eastern part of the SF Bay Area (Livermore Valley). His interests are Basketball and Music. During the warm spring and summer evenings you can find him out in front of his house playing basketball with friends and neighbors.

Regional Foreman of Special Projects

Pedro has worked on ranches since he was 8 years old when he took care of sheep and cows.  Pedro enjoys scouring flea markets and watching Cruz Azul FC.  Pedro came to work in the Central Valley after the 1985 Mexico City earthquake.

Assistant Regional Foreman of Special Projects

Daniel can usually be found, along the local riverbanks fishing.  Daniel says almost nothing beats his wife’s cook up of the day’s catch!  He also plays soccer with a club in Stockton.  Daniel is a native of Morelos, Mexico and a fan of Toluca FC.
